Clear answers before you request a freight quote
Practical guidance for North American businesses shipping commercial cargo, bulky goods, and multi-supplier orders from China.
Every shipment is different. Cargo acceptance, customs scope, route availability, and final delivery are confirmed from the actual shipment details.
Shipment fit
Start here to see whether your cargo fits our commercial freight focus.
What types of shipments does landfallfreight handle?
We coordinate freight from China for North American businesses moving commercial inventory, bulky or heavy goods, equipment, building materials, and orders collected from multiple suppliers. The main modes are ocean LCL, FCL, and commercially meaningful air freight.
Do you handle personal parcels or single-item purchases?
Our service is designed primarily for commercial freight rather than international parcels or courier-size personal purchases. A large one-time shipment may still be reviewed when the cargo, compliance requirements, and delivery conditions are suitable.
Can you ship bulky, heavy, or oversized commercial cargo?
Yes, subject to the packed dimensions, weight per piece, packaging, route, and unloading conditions. Large or heavy cargo needs a shipment-specific review before equipment and final-delivery arrangements can be confirmed.
Review bulky cargo planning →Which products require additional compliance review?
Food, feed, children’s products, batteries, liquids, powders, wood products, branded goods, stone, and certain steel or aluminum products may require additional documents or regulatory review. Acceptance is not confirmed until the product and route have been checked.
Can you consolidate orders from multiple Chinese suppliers?
Yes. We can coordinate supplier pickup or warehouse delivery, receive cargo, consolidate it, and plan LCL or FCL after the packed shipment is measured. Supplier count, readiness dates, and packaging details are required for planning.

Complete shipment facts make mode comparisons and written scopes more reliable.
What information is required for an accurate freight quote?
Please provide the commodity, piece count, packaging, packed dimensions, total weight and volume, declared value, China pickup location, destination postcode, address type, cargo-ready date, and any special cargo or unloading conditions.
Open the freight quote checklist →Why do you need packed dimensions and weight?
Freight charges and equipment suitability depend on the packed cargo, not the unpacked product. The largest and heaviest piece can also affect handling, liftgate availability, truck type, and delivery feasibility.
Why is the destination ZIP or postal code required?
A city name alone cannot identify the delivery terminal, remote-area status, truck access, or local service options. The postcode and address type are needed before final delivery can be priced and reviewed.
Can I request a quote before the cargo is ready?
Yes. We can provide a planning estimate from the best available information, but the booking scope and price may need to be updated after final packing details, cargo readiness, and current route availability are confirmed.
How do I choose between LCL, FCL, and air freight?
The choice depends on volume, weight, cargo value, handling risk, supplier timing, urgency, origin and destination charges, and final delivery. Container utilization alone does not determine the lowest total landed cost.
Compare FCL and LCL →Can you compare LCL and FCL for the same shipment?
Yes, when the shipment information is complete enough to compare the realistic origin, ocean, destination, and delivery scope. High-density, fragile, or multi-supplier cargo may justify a different mode than volume alone suggests.
DDP, customs, and charges
Importer arrangements and shipment-dependent exceptions must be clear before booking.
What does a DDP quote include?
It includes only the pickup, transport, customs, duty or tax treatment, and delivery scope identified in the written quote. The precise scope depends on the cargo, destination, importer arrangement, and available channel.
Read our DDP and customs scope →Does DDP always include customs duties and tariffs?
DDP normally addresses import clearance and duties within an agreed arrangement, but it should not be assumed that every tariff, examination, reclassification, or compliance event is automatically included. The written quote must state the duty treatment and exceptions for the shipment.
Who will act as the Importer of Record?
The importer arrangement is reviewed shipment by shipment and must be confirmed before booking. The customer must still provide accurate product, value, origin, and compliance information regardless of the commercial term used.
Does landfallfreight perform customs brokerage?
We coordinate customs requirements through appropriately licensed customs brokerage partners. We do not represent landfallfreight as an in-house licensed customs broker.
What costs may fall outside the agreed quote?
Possible exceptions include customs examination, reclassification, inaccurate cargo data, remeasurement, storage, demurrage or detention, waiting time, failed appointments, address changes, and unrequested delivery services. Relevant conditions should be identified in writing before booking.
What happens if customs inspects or reclassifies the cargo?
The customs brokerage partner will advise on the required response and supporting documents. Resulting duties, examination, storage, or handling costs are shipment-dependent and are not assumed to be included unless the written quote expressly says so.
Final delivery and coverage
The destination address and unloading setup can materially change the plan.
Can you deliver to residential addresses?
Qualified residential deliveries can be reviewed, but the postcode, truck access, cargo size, piece weight, appointment needs, and available unloading equipment must be confirmed. Residential service is not the same as standard dock delivery.
Compare residential and commercial delivery →What are liftgate, appointment, and inside-delivery services?
A liftgate lowers suitable cargo from the trailer when no loading dock is available. Appointment service schedules delivery with the receiver. Inside delivery goes beyond normal curb or dock service and must be specifically reviewed and quoted.
Can you deliver to Amazon FBA or a 3PL warehouse?
Yes, subject to appointment, labeling, pallet, booking, and receiving requirements. The destination facility details and delivery instructions should be provided before the final scope is confirmed.
Do you serve Alaska, Hawaii, and all Canadian regions?
Mainland USA service cannot be assumed to cover Alaska, Hawaii, or other non-mainland destinations on the same terms. Remote Canadian regions and islands may be unavailable or require separate pricing. We verify the postcode, cargo, and current channel before confirming coverage.
Can you ship commercial freight from China to Puerto Rico?
Yes, for suitable shipments when a current air or ocean route is available. Routing, customs or tax treatment, cargo acceptance, and island delivery are reviewed shipment by shipment rather than promised as a permanent fixed service.
Review the Puerto Rico trade lane →Timing, documents, and insurance
Estimates become more reliable after cargo and booking conditions are confirmed.
How long does freight shipping from China take?
Timing depends on the origin, destination, transport mode, sailing or flight availability, consolidation, customs, and final delivery. We provide a shipment-specific estimate after reviewing the route; it is not an unconditional delivery guarantee.
When does the transit-time estimate begin?
The written quote should state the timing basis. Supplier pickup, consolidation, export preparation, and waiting for all cargo to arrive may occur before the main international transit begins.
Is cargo automatically insured for its full value?
No. Carrier liability and cargo insurance are different. High-value, fragile, or special cargo should be reviewed for shipment-specific insurance, with coverage, exclusions, and claim requirements confirmed in writing.
What documents may be requested after I submit the form?
Depending on the shipment, we may request a packing list, commercial invoice, product photos, supplier details, HS code information, material or compliance documents, and delivery-site information. Documents are requested by email because the current website form does not accept attachments.
How quickly will you respond to a quote request?
We aim to review and respond within 12 hours. Complex, regulated, oversized, or incomplete shipments may require additional information before a usable quote can be prepared.
